Using the SmartInspect Map

To complete building inspections using SmartInspect, a location must be selected: each inspection must be associated with an address. Users can navigate the map using swipe and pinch/expand touch gestures. The built-in map displays several different pins: a Green pin representing the user’s current location, while any Blue pins represent building inspections assigned to the user. A third type of map pin can be dropped by the user by selecting a new location to complete an inspection. This Purple pin can be placed on the map by searching for an address using the map's search bar, or by long tapping on a map location.

Note: If an account also has the user role for SmartCapture, ensure that Inspections is selected. If Preplans is selected, inspections cannot be created, and assigned inspections cannot be accessed.

Creating New Inspection Requests

New inspection requests can be created using either the device's current location or a user-defined location. Tapping a map pin will cause a label to appear. For green and purple pins, the label will contain the address information for the selected location: tapping the label will present a dialog box that allows the user to create a new inspection for the selected location. When creating a new inspection request on the mobile side of SmartInspect, the following information must be entered:
  • Building Name
Note: If creating a new inspection request at an occupancy for which there is already an inspection, entering the building name is required in order to link the new inspection request to the correct occupancy.
  • Type - the inspection type being created
  • Date - the requested date of inspection

Additionally, users have the option of adding comments to a new inspection request. Once the inspection request information has been entered, tapping Submit will create the new inspection request. The new inspection will open upon successful creation.

Selecting Assigned Inspection Requests

Assigned inspection requests can be selected from the SmartInspect map for completion, or to add comments to the inspection request. Tapping a blue pin presents a label with the address information for the selected location, as well as the requested date of inspection, the inspection type, and any additional comments about the inspection. Additional comments can be added by tapping the plus button. The inspection can be opened by tapping open.
